Oculus Rift Black Friday 2017
« on: Friday, 24. November 2017, 08:19:37 »
= € 399,-- everywhere TODAY!

If you ever considered to get one, this is your best chance so far.  :driver: The Immersion you´ll get is 10 times better than racing with 3 Monitors, the factor concerned to 1 Monitor is unbelievable. The best thing is the immersion of speed you´ll get and the size of everything is like it appears in real life... The details in the cars in and outside are very good (modelled Torx screws at the Porsche for example, true 3D)!

I play with a GeForce GTX 1050 ti low profile, which is a quite cheap graphics card. My CPU is a i7 3990k, not THAT new. And AC runs smooth like melted butter ;)

You´ll need 2 USB 3.0 ports if you play with 1 sensor (more than enough for Racing). If you´d like to use the 2nd Sensor, you´ll need 3 USB 3.0 ports. Thats all!

Can´t believe MS will do a better job than Oculus here. Especially when you mainly use it for AC.

Since 1 month I am using the oculus aswell and have to agree with Wolfgang . Simracing + VR is simply amazing, you get a great feeling for the size of the car which helps to position it exactly where you want it to be. And looking around for the opponents is amazing as well. Highly recommended

After trying and trying and trying ´cause the Oculus page was down for a long time...i´ve ordered today
The question for me was buying a new monitor (Samsung C34F791) or the Oculus and it was just the question what it costs.

@Tim

Try this one:
icy box usb 3.0. I´m happy with that piece  ;)

Aha, Thanks for the advice Matthias!

Why is the Oculus that much better (certainly concerning simracing), Wolfgang? (Or Hannes)

First you get a fixed and correct fov. Dont know the exact one, but its about 60°. That helps to anticipate accurate cornering.

And then it's the fact that you really are sitting IN the car, having the environment AROUND you, not just in front of you. Imagine a movie, where you are IN the szene, completely in 3D.
With all this you are much much closer to  feel like a race driver.

@ Matthias: Great to hear this. Will be interesting how this affects your speed. I guess it will give you a boost.

Tim, that's another point: Several drivers that are new with the Rift were reporting that they got faster because of anticipating cornering much better now. You own a triple screen setup which is already better than a single monitor concerning this case.

Anyone have been sophisticated so far, you truly will be as well :).

@ Wolfgang:

I didn't mean better in comparison to triple screen but why exactly is the OR better in comparison to the microsoft vr sets?   :what:

I don't know the MS VR, but OR is most advanced..

And only the Rift is directly supported in AC. I tested the Rift with the OpenVR driver (and all other VR Googles have to use this mode) and the Image quality is worse than in Oculus mode. Mostly because the OpenVR mode is missing SuperSampling.

I read somewhere that with SS Antialias can be disabled. The difference in normal mode (not VR) are 3000 points in the AC benchmark (22000 instead of 19000). So worth a try. So far I didn't test the image quality with the Oculus.

Oh, most recommended SS rate is 1.4, to be set in the oculus.ini (Documents folder).
